A spiritual awakening in the dorm

"When I entered college, I was a bit like flotsam being tossed about by the ocean."

One of my main goals in high school was to attend a prestigious college. During my freshman year in college, however, I quickly discovered that I needed goals and aspirations that could last a lifetime. I needed a relationship with God.

This led me to study the Bible, where I learned Jesus' two great commands, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind" and "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (Matt. 22:37, 39). My ignorance of God and my intense shyness posed challenges to my achievement of these goals, but I began my spiritual journey.

When I entered college, I was a bit like flotsam being tossed about by the ocean. Yet through my study of the Bible and Science and Health, I learned that I was inseparable from God. As I reached out in prayer for solutions, God was right there to help me. I was becoming more like a sea anemone attached to a rock than freely floating flotsam. I could trust God to guide and protect me.
