Mother masters fear

One winter several family members, including my daughter and me, were returning home after attending my nephew's wedding. The flight was very turbulent for the whole trip. I felt gripped with fear because of the sharp jolting and rocking of the plane, and was upset by seeing the effects the disturbance was having on other passengers. So I put my head back, closed my eyes, and began praying. From studying Christian Science I knew I had to allay fear. I first thought of God and gained a clear sense of divine Love. I saw that God is the only real force governing the universe and the only true lawgiver.

In minutes our daughter jumped off my lap to join a friend. That was the end of the illness.

My fear lessened. I marveled that my daughter was peacefully asleep next to me, completely unaffected. Then I realized that this assurance was natural to all of us, since it wasn't the situation that affected us so much as it was our thought about the situation. I continued to pray, making any fearful, unpleasant, or evil thought yield to accurate spiritual facts about God and man. This became easier as I saw the bigger picture of God in charge, with man as His expression. I did not stop praying until I felt completely safe. This victory brought an undeniable feeling of dominion that continued to bless our family.
