God's love brings spiritual growth and healing

I have been a student of Christian Science for many years. The more I study the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the more I find myself drawn to the teachings and life of our Master, Christ Jesus. I feel profoundly touched by the love his life bestows on all mankind, and I sense that I've hardly begun to glimpse either its meaning or power. The need to understand more draws me to the Gospels, and in them I am discovering the truth of the Bible's declaration "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and for ever" (Heb. 13:8). Christian Science is helping me to see that this is true in every way one could think of.

Compared to many people I know, my life has been wonderfully free from illness. Yet, there have been times when I have been in need of healing. What I find interesting is that when I look back on these times, I see them as periods of substantial spiritual growth.

Several years ago my wife and I had plans to go away for a long weekend. At the time we planned to leave, a number of painful sores appeared on my head. I called a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, and my wife and I decided to go ahead with our trip. I have always relied on prayer when I have been unwell, and when we reached our hotel I prayed for some time before retiring for the night. In the morning I woke with an unshakable conviction that I should study the chapter "Footsteps of Truth" in Science and Health. I read that chapter; I thought carefully about what it said; I prayed with the ideas it presented.
