Prayer that holds us in His hand
There's a traditional Irish blessing. It sings of God's tender mercies and grace: "May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May rains fall soft upon your field. May God hold you in the palm of His hand."
Each morning as the road of a new day faces us, there are often tough demands. Hard choices. Responsibilities and obligations. But if we bring prayer to our day, can we not expect God's ready care and guidance? Should we not expect the course of our day to run true before us, the bumps and low spots to smooth out, the twists and turns to be made straight? In prayer we can acknowledge—understand—the presence and directing power of God as the one infinite Mind, the all-knowing and all-seeing Mind. Our prayer can affirm that we naturally express the unlimited intelligence that this one Mind imparts to each of us as its perfect idea. This opens our thought to God's perfect guidance. The road rises to meet us.
