Get your life back on track

Friendship restored, flu healed, thought focused on God.

Have you ever felt that you were in a rut, or had feelings of gloom about your prospects? I've felt that way. Sometimes those feelings have been all the more shocking because I've been under the impression that I was doing everything just right—striving to be the best human being that I could.

Recently, I was deeply worried about my career and my finances. Things just didn't seem to be working out, and I began to get quite stressed about the future. In studying the Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly), I discovered during my time of doubt and distress that I'd been taken in by a very materialistic view of myself.

This came as a surprise because I'd been fairly certain that I was doing a good job of understanding that my true selfhood is spiritual, the image and likeness of God. But as I considered my situation, I realized that even though I had worked hard on progressing in my spiritual understanding, I still entertained some unfavorable and unloving thoughts without attempting to eradicate them.
