God's angels—and EI Niño

Safe and sound—whatever the weather

Dear EI Niño,

You are said to be a mighty threatening phenomenon. You don't firghten me, and I'll tell you why. I'm learning to listen to God. This tells me that right where the bad weather appears to be, the power of God, good, rules. As I've learned to listen, I have been better able to perceive God's power and to prove the unchanging presence of good. During the blizzard of 1978, I lived in an area noted for extreme snowfall accumulations. One day I started the two-mile drive to work. Before I got there, however, I noticed that the sky was darker than I had ever seen it and realized I must return home quickly. I didn't make it. The storm came with such intensity that there was no visibility. (The winds were seventy miles per hour.) I found myself in a completely dark car being buried by snow.

It was reported later that people walked over the tops of cars, not knowing there were cars with occupants trapped inside. This is what appeared to be happening to me.
