The Christmas story

Do you wonder what Jesus thought of his birth?
Did his mother tell him the glorious tale
Of the star and the shepherds, the angel choir
And Magi carrying gifts of great worth
For the babe of a young girl's virgin birth?

Did she remember to tell him, too,
Of "no room in the inn—at least not for you"?
Of the stable, instead, where he woke that morn,
Of the manger there where he was born?

Did her little son, hearing, laugh and say
"Did the lambs hear, too, as angels sang?
I expect they knew!"
And run off to play
As any child would do?

While Mary smiled,
Holding close in her heart
This special birth and this boy apart,
And gave God the glory with thankful mind
For joy forever, for all mankind.
