Skin cancer healed through prayer

As a mariner working as a tugboat skipper and pilot in the Caribbean basin area, I have been exposed to quite a lot of glorious sunshine. And I just love a long swim in the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. My growing understanding of Christian Science has diminished considerably my fear of sharks, and I don't carry a knife anymore when I swim, even half a mile from the shore.

In 1992 I developed a painful sore on my left ear. I was quite new and inexperienced in Christian Science, and did not know any Christian Science practitioners. So I went to a doctor, who sent me to a specialist, a dermatologist. The dermatologist at the hospital was very positive about his diagnosis of skin cancer. He explained to me that the only thing that could be done was surgery. So I told him I would contact him for an appointment.

When I got home, I called a lady I knew in San José who is a Christian Scientist. She gave me the telephone number of a practitioner, whom I called He agreed to take my case and treat me through prayer, provided I was willing not to have medical treatment of any kind. I can assure you that took some courage, but I had great faith in God's power to heal, so I was willing to trust the practitioner and Christian Science.
