PRAYING FOR THE MEDIA

These are not the best of times for the media. In the United States, recently, major stories have had to be retracted, and well-known journalists have been forced to resign after it was determined that they had repeatedly fabricated the content of their columns.

Of course, there are still instances of great reporting, and many individuals are devoted to maintaining high ethical standards in journalism. Where there is need for improvement, there is the opportunity for prayer. The media are no exception to that rule. Prayer makes a difference in what we expect of others, and it makes a difference in what we experience.

A few years ago my job was to watch for, and respond to, mentions in the media of something I dearly love—Christian Science. All too often, however, Christian Science and its Discoverer, Mary Baker Eddy, were sloppily or inaccurately portrayed. Consequently, my opinion of journalists was sinking.
