Child's own prayers bring healing

Many years ago, as a young child, I experienced a healing that has become a milestone to me in aiding my confidence in my ability to heal myself through the application of Christian Science. One night, although I had gone to bed feeling well, I woke in the middle of the night with a very painful sore throat. I remembered what Mary Baker Eddy had said about how one should think of himself or herself in order not experience discord. In a sermon entitled Christian Healing, she states: "If you wish to be happy, argue with yourself on the side of happiness; take the side you wish to carry, and be careful not to talk on both sides, or to argue stronger for sorrow than for joy. You are the attorney for the case, and will win or lose according to your plea" (p. 10).

The sore throat was certainly not making me very happy! I chose to argue on the side of happiness by seeing myself as God made me—happy and free from sickness.
