To our readers

AMONG THE MOST inspiring aspects of the Bible are its blessings. The Psalms of the Old Testament, for example, are filled with blessings. And for many who love the Bible, the most powerful of all the blessings are found in Christ Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. They are known simply as the Beatitudes.

The one I'm thinking of as I write this is "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted" (Matt. 5:4). It's such a tender, compassionate blessing of God's love and care for us. even in the most difficult of circumstances. It was natural that Jesus would share such a blessing with his disciples. The New Testament tells us more than once that in his ministry he was "moved with compassion." And Jesus' compassion invariably resulted in comfort and healing.

This week's Cover Story shares a contemporary example of comfort and healing. In "At Iast! I'm free!" the author tells of her own journey out of grief after her brother had been killed. She offers a spiritual perspective that shows how to break the chains of past sadness and hardship. It's a blessing worth reading.
