If you or someone you know is looking for a good college, you might consider evaluating the school's commitment to prevention of alcohol and other drug abuse in addition to its focus on academics.
One good resource is the biennial report that colleges must prepare under the Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Act. The report will tell you how effective the school's prevention program is and also how consistently it enforces its policies. Officials at the college or university are legally required to provide a copy to anybody who asks for it.
