Heart trouble healed

As a child I was healed of an ear infection through the prayer of my mother and treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. I vividly recall this experience and the peaceful release that came to me while my mother sang "Mother's Evening Prayer" by Mary Baker Eddy (see Christian Science Hymnal, No.207).

Six years ago, I began to experience heart palpitations that filled me with fear. I had treatment from several practitioners over a period of two years, and a real focus of my own spiritual study and prayer was the beatitude "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God" (Matt. 5:8). I gradually embraced purity more and more and endeavored to live it more in my life.

At one point, I was on assignment in Mexico City, alone and very far from home. While I was in my hotel room one morning, the palpitations came again. I called a practitioner in the United States to treat me. I began to read the Bible Lesson for that week (found in the Christian Science Quarterly). But it was very hard to concentrate. After some time, I telephoned the practitioner again just to let her know of the situation. This time, when I returned to the Lesson, I read aloud to myself. I found a passage in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy that held my attention, and I began to pray with it. As I prayed, I got a clear sense of Love as ever present, as holy, pure—as All. This light of divine Love filled my thought, and I felt gently peaceful. I looked out the window and saw the "Angel of Independence" monument—a prominent landmark. I thought how the angels, or thoughts, of God's presence had given me freedom from material conditions. I joyfully went on an excursion to climb pyramids only a few hours later. This healing has been permanent and has encouraged me when I have faced other difficulties.
