"The article in the September 7 issue about smoking was an answer to my prayer for enlightenment."

The article in the September 7 issue about smoking was an answer to my prayer for enlightenment. I had quit smoking weeks before, but had such withdrawal symptoms that I was afraid I had done it with willpower. If I were a writer and knew how to express myself, the article is exactly what I would have written. It showed me just how it had happened and left no doubt in my mind that it was the work of God. Please thank Mr. Carlson for me. I am so grateful both for the article and to be out of bondage after forty-five years.

In my volunteer chaplain work for juvenile offenders, I am most inspired with Paul's message that we are all one (spiritual) body. The "members ... which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour," he observes (I Cor. 12:23). Each of us belongs to that body of Christ, including our younger brothers and sisters who have committed less-than-honorable acts. So how can we just cut off some of God's little ones as if they were irreparable, unrestorable parts? Instead, shouldn't we tenderly enfold each of them in our consciousness? Let's unite with them against whatever would attack them and cause them to lash out, against that which "defileth, ... or maketh a lie."
