Child healed of fever

My fourth-grade class was going to go on a field trip to hear an orchestra perform at the nearby high school. When I woke up on the day of the trip, my face was red and hot. I went into the kitchen. Mom gave me a hug. We were quiet for a minute, praying, and then Mom went to get her Bible. She wanted to read a verse from Job to me.

I could diligently listen to God and His thoughts, which are healthy.

God was speaking and said, "I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion" (41:12). This did not make much sense to me, so Mom and I talked about it. In the Christian Science Sunday School I am learning that the "parts" that make me up are not skin and blood. My "parts" are kindness and joy, and these cannot be hidden by flesh. The parts of flesh include selfishness and fear. These have no power and could not conceal my ability to do what was planned that day.

I was feeling well enough to practice my piano, because I had a lesson before school. By the time for the lesson, my face looked almost normal. Mom and I decided to go to the lesson. In the car we talked about beauty or "comeliness." Beauty is not of the skin, but has to do with our thoughts. Good thoughts such as being helpful, obedient, and thankful for others are comely.

My piano teacher did not even notice my face, but she did notice my practicing had been done well. I decided to go to school. School went fine and I really enjoyed the field trip. To see those musicians perform was inspiring. They lived diligence. Just as I could diligently listen to God and His thoughts, which are healthy.

After school Mom read the definition of fear from Science and Health to me. "Fear. Heat; inflammation; anxiety; ignorance; error; desire; caution" (p. 586). All of a sudden I looked at Mom and realized that being angry (for example with my sister) or anxious about doing something new could be like getting red hot! I told Mom, "God never gets mad, and I can't get angry, because God made me calm and cool." That evening I was completely healed.
