Why don't Christian Scientists use conventional medicine?

It's a good question. Some time ago I heard a radio talk-show caller say she had never for a moment considered prayer as a healing power, so she couldn't possibly imagine relying on it. I could readily understand her feelings. Since I've never relied on medical means for healing, I can't imagine depending on a material substance or procedure for help instead of on Almighty God. For each of us it's really a matter of proofs, isn't it? Anyone would be reluctant to turn away from what had been found to be effective and reliable in his or her life.

Once when one of our sons was living overseas, he became very ill. He prayed and also received treatment through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner. In a moment of extremity, when he felt overwhelmed, he turned humbly, earnestly to God, leaning utterly on Him. Suddenly he felt an overwhelming sense of Love, of the wondrous, powerful Love that is God. He was instantly healed. The condition never returned. Today, years later, he and his wife and children continue to experience healing through the power of prayer.

In our family, health needs have readily been met through prayer alone. Christian Science treatment has resulted in healings of severe back pain, contagious diseases, blood poisoning, asthma, malaria, skin cancer, athletic injuries, heart trouble, and allergies. Quick and painless childbirths have occurred as well.
