Christian Science was presented to me over sixty years ago and has been a great school of learning. The following healings represent a very small portion of the blessings I have experienced throughout my life.

One evening my husband and I were in the sitting room. I was reading Science and Health. My husband sat smoking a cigarette. I turned to him and said, "The real man could not smoke." My husband said, "What do you mean, 'the real man could not smoke'?" I said, "He could not, as Mrs. Eddy defines man in this book." I read to him the passage I had been reading —it is so many years ago I cannot remember exactly the part I read. My husband wanted to read it through and gave the book back to me. Then he asked me to read it again, which I did. From that moment, he was healed of the smoking habit. He had numerous opportunities to smoke following this healing, but to him smoking had no appeal whatsoever—the healing was complete.

Another healing took place when our eldest daughter was quite young. She had an abscess that was very painful and made it difficult for her to sit down or stand. I knew very little about Christian Science at that time, but I knew I could expect healing to result from prayer. I decided to put our daughter to bed and put a drawsheet under her. I gave her the Christian Science Hymnal and asked her to sing all the hymns she had learned in Sunday School—which she did. I then left her in God's loving care and went downstairs to do some housework and continue my own praying. After she had finished singing the hymns she fell asleep. When she woke the abscess had drained—she was healed, for which we lovingly thanked God.
