"No power can withstand divine Love," writes Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 224). I proved this truth when I was healed of back pain so severe that I could hardly walk.

I had gone on holiday with a friend. We had enjoyed about three happy days, when she suddenly started criticizing me and my religion. The commentary seemed constant. I kept my cool, however, and refused to react or justify myself, because I knew I was being provoked into an argument. I remembered Christ Jesus' counsel "Let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil" (Matt. 5:37). Then she stopped speaking to me.

Now, constructive criticism can be helpful, and I wanted to listen in case I had any lessons to learn. But I honestly couldn't see where I had gone wrong. So I clung faithfully to God and tried to treat my friend kindly, and refrained from criticizing her. I was determined not to take offence, and just to love. I was not going to change my lifestyle nor compromise my religious standards to please her, as I wanted to please God always, rather than person.
