Christ, the safest mooring

When large, single-point moorings are installed in the ocean, they provide a secure mooring for giant ships that can't get into a harbor. A massive anchor or base on the sea floor holds the mooring buoy in place by a very strong connecting anchor chain. A heavy hawser or mooring arm connects the ship to the buoy. The ships swing around these buoys with the winds and tides as cargo is transferred or loaded in all but the worst of storm conditions.

While working on a particular problem with one of these mooring systems, I began to think of how that system related to my knowledge of the Science of Christ. I began to relate its various major components to insights that have been most important in my spiritual growth—ideas that have helped to heal or lift me out of material problems and illnesses.

The Bible tells us, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). In both the Old and New Testaments, there are passages assuring us that God can cure all our problems. There are numerous references to men and women who were healed and were saved from trouble through a knowledge of God's presence and power.
