I am grateful to have attended a Christian Science Sunday School...
I am grateful to have attended a Christian Science Sunday School until I was twenty. The spiritual education I received there was a great help to me, especially during the time I was at university. While other students spoke of feeling "poor," I never felt like this. I had learned in Sunday School, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 494). Knowing this fact enabled me to find accommodation and to meet my living expenses. Whenever I had a need, I was able to trust God to care for me, and He always did.
Another experience for which I am grateful happened not long after I finished Sunday School. I was travelling at night with a group of university students to a weekend sports tournament when some of the people started smoking marijuana. This upset me, but when most of the others joined in I didn't feel I could say anything. I knew, however, from what I had learned in Sunday School that nothing bad or ungodlike could touch me and that this was also true for the others in the van. God is always taking care of all His children. I prayed to know nothing could harm me. Almost immediately the van stopped and everyone got out, leaving the doors open. By the time we resumed our journey the van was smoke-free. After that no one smoked. It wasn't mentioned, and it didn't happen again throughout the tournament or on the way home.
The Science of Christianity was also helpful to me when I was expecting my first child. In preparation for the birth I studied passages from the Bible and Science and Health and articles in the Christian Science periodicals dealing with birth, parenthood, and obstetrics. I also had treatment through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner. When I felt fearful, I found it very reassuring to know that God, divine Mind, is the real Parent of us all—creating, supporting, and controlling His ideas. I also found it helpful to affirm that God sends forth nothing less than perfection and that God, being divine Principle, Love, maintains the harmony of His offspring, man.
