A QUESTIONS & ANSWERS EXCHANGE

This column is a place to explore questions with other readers and with the editorial staff of the Sentinel. The responses are offered not so much to close the question but to open possibilities for further prayer, exploration, and living of spiritual truth.

Q. Since plastic surgery isn't a matter of health, is it in conflict with the practice of Christian Science?—from a reader in Missouri

A. Plastic surgery probably has more to do with mental health than the question suggests. If we believe that professional success or attractiveness to others or to ourselves depends upon the appearance of the body, we'll never be truly satisfied or secure. We'll also be in ever greater bondage to the body, fearing that we may lose our good looks at any time.
