Writing for the Sentinel
From the Editors: We invite you to consider writing for the Sentinel! Testimonies may be submitted by anyone who has experienced Christian Science healing. Articles and poems are accepted from members of The Mother Church . There's no standard "Sentinel style" that you need to reproduce. But we are looking for writing that has the spirit of the mission Mary Baker Eddy assigned to this magazine—"... to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love"—and of its motto, "... Watch." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353; Mark 13:37 (and on Sentinel cover). In fact, articles need to fill the role of any successful sentinel or guard. They should communicate directly and practically, and be rousing, convincing, and bold. If you're wondering whether a manuscript you're working on fulfills this role, it can sometimes be helpful to ask yourself the following questions:
• Why am I writing this?
• How will my article help readers "hold guard"?
