The river of beauty in everyone's life
Imagine a sparkling river, pursuing its purposeful journey from its high mountain source down to the open sea.
The river is a resilient, redemptive, and pervading image in the Scriptures. The Psalmist sings, "There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High" (Ps. 46:4). And Revelation proclaims "a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb" (22:1).
In a world where ugliness often seems to degrade people's lives and thoughts, the spiritual significance of "a pure river ... clear as crystal" is worth contemplating. River is explained in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy as "Channel of thought.
