I had a healing on Thanksgiving Day 1993

I had a healing on Thanksgiving Day 1993. I was then First Reader for the Christian Science Society in Kingman, Arizona. After the holiday church service, we were all departing. I was chatting with someone as I started to pass outside through the open door.

Kingman was having extremely strong, gusting winds that day, and suddenly the wind caught the door and blew it behind me, hitting me with such great force that I was literally knocked off my feet and thrown down. All I knew at first was that my face hit the pavement so hard I saw flashes of light. I think everyone in attendance that day saw what happened; people in their cars or on the sidewalk near me immediately rushed to my side to help, but I chose to sit quietly on the sidewalk. I covered my face with both hands and tried to shut out the images of what had just happened. (I have felt over many years that it is usually best not to try to jump to my feet after a fall, but to remain perfectly calm and quiet, right where I am, until I have declared that I am not hurt and understood the reason why [see Science and Health with the Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 397]). I was totally occupied with that prayerful effort, and my friends were all praying too.

My teeth had been loosened, my nose and mouth had been badly injured, and I had to deal with great pain. Two friends hurried to provide me with paper towels and tissues to take care of the bleeding.
