A meaningful healing I had was of frustration and emotional disturbance. Formerly, whenever I heard of any difficulty in my extended family, I would become depressed and worried and condemn myself, feeling that prayer for my family had been ineffective.

The psalms were especially helpful to me, particularly number 139: "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me" (verses 9, 10). I knew my daily prayer for all of humanity also included my family. Now I felt overjoyed that God was in charge of all mankind, including my loved ones, and that no one could be beyond His love and care. I found a wealth of guidance and wisdom and help in the Bible and in Mrs. Eddy's writings. In this day we need to do as St. Paul instructed, and "Pray without ceasing" (I Thess. 5:17). News reports of violence can be very alarming. The increase in the sale and use of guns continues, partly because too many are afraid, and feel that these are needed for self-protection.

As my husband and I operated a foster home and had five children of our own, I spent much time praying for children. I found that each Christian Science Bible Lesson contains pertinent passages to help deal with adverse situations that come up.
