The Bible's transforming message
I Never read the Bible until I enrolled in Sunday School at age eleven. Since then, it has been my constant companion. Only recently, however, did I decide to read it from cover to cover, and what an inspiration that was!
There's much in the Bible, however, that does not fall under the category of "inspirational reading"—lengthy genealogies, census figures, ancient dietary laws, and so forth. Some of it is repetitious. Some of the wording is weighed down by the theological concerns of later translators.
Underlying the entire book, nevertheless, are a message and a mission that have altered the course of human history. Its message has profound implications: there is but one creator, God, whose provision for His creation is infinite good. Its mission: to rescue mankind from anything that would keep us from knowing God's goodness and love.
