Last spring I tripped playing soccer on the playground at recess...

Last spring I tripped playing soccer on the playground at recess, and someone fell on me. I cried because my shoulder hurt and I couldn't use my arm. The schoolteachers thought I should go to the nurse, and she thought my collarbone might have been broken. She put my arm in a sling. We called my parents, but my dad was at the airport dropping off my mom. While I waited, I thought of a definition of man in Science and Health, which starts out "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements" (p. 475). I knew if that was true, I couldn't have a broken bone, because I was God's image.

My dad finally came, and in the car he prayed with me. It helped to keep my thoughts on God. Dad had called my mom and she was praying too. She said she had also been studying the same definition of man. She asked me if I remembered what I used to say when I was little, and I said, "If God didn't make it, then I can't have it." I told her I had been thinking of that, too! We knew that God loved me and only causes good.

We called a Christian Science practitioner to pray with us. Each day I felt more comfortable and was able to use my arm more. After several days we had an X-ray taken. It showed that there had been a break in the collarbone, but that the bone was in place.
