"Either here or hereafter, suffering or Science must destroy all...
"Either here or hereafter, suffering or Science must destroy all illusions regarding life and mind, and regenerate material sense and self" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 296). I have certainly found this statement to be accurate.
Though as a child I had many wonderful healings through prayer, I drifted away from Christian Science late in my teens, and followed a more materialistic lifestyle. Fascinated by philosophy and the study of comparative religion in college, I began a fifteen-year odyssey, searching for a truth that could explain the world of the five senses. However intellectually stimulating that search was at times, I found it to be spiritually empty, even as I experimented with a variety of meditational and devotional practices.
During this time my health gradually deteriorated. I spent several years seeking help from a variety of doctors and therapeutic treatments. After a year of almost constant illness, I was then bedridden for over a month with a viral infection that did not respond to any medical treatment. I felt at my wits' end.
