Preventive medicine
There is a way of living that prevents the development of disease in the human system. Our Lord, Christ Jesus, knew it well. It is to live in perfect relation to our heavenly Father.
Jesus never talked about disease. But he did actively and successfully engage in the prevention and cure of disease. And he instructed: "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils" (Matt. 10:8). To prepare his followers for this important work, Jesus talked about God. Jesus wanted them to feel as close to God as he did. In fact, he wanted them to be at one with God, and with one another in Christ.
After his beautiful prayer for his immediate disciples, which is recorded in the Bible, in the seventeenth chapter of John's Gospel, Jesus continued, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us" (verses 20, 21). This prayer was for us—for all humanity—that we might come to understand Christ, Truth, and enter into full agreement with our spiritual wholeness, or true health, as sons and daughters of God.
