Never outside Love's embrace

When you move to a new town or city, you aren't leaving God's love behind.

We were moving. My husband had just been offered an interesting career opportunity a thousand miles away. As we settled into our new home, I felt very happy. But after a while, my sense of adventure faded. I would watch my husband go off to work, leaving me alone with our baby daughter, and I began to feel lonely and homesick—especially after a telephone call back home! My relatives and friends were so far away. Sometimes the longing seemed overwhelming and I would pray earnestly to feel the comfort of God's presence.

One day, after my third long-distance call that week, I thought of a Bible story I'd read recently in the Old Testament. In it a man named Lot had an opportunity to escape from the evil city in which he was living before it was destroyed. But he was cautioned to "look not behind thee" as he went. According to the narrative' "His wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt" (Gen. 19:17,26).

It dawned on me that I was behaving somewhat like Lot's wife, looking back and full of salty tears! I was believing that good was confined to a certain location. But the Bible makes it clear that God is good and is everywhere. So it is impossible to get outside of, or move away from, God's love.
