Finding God and finding companionship
How natural it is to want to be loved and appreciated! How right it is to know that we are cherished by others!
But sometimes circumstances can make us feel anything but appreciated and loved. Perhaps a recent divorce or the passing of a spouse has left us feeling abandoned. Or perhaps, while friends have married and are starting families, we are without a companion—either a close friend or a marriage partner—and feel lonely.
To anyone yearning for companionship, the Bible gives clear direction. In Christ Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, the Master explains God's ability to care for our most basic needs. A contemporary translation of Matthew 6:31–33 reads: "... don't worry and don't keep saying' 'What shall we eat, what shall we drink or what shall we wear?' ... your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Set your heart first on his kingdom and his goodness, and all these things will come to you as a matter of course" (J.B. Phillips, The New Testament in Modern English).
