I grew up attending a mainstream Protestant church

I grew up attending a mainstream Protestant church. When my marriage of twenty-eight years ended in divorce, I explored various religions and philosophies, searching for a spiritual understanding of God and man that would give more meaning to my life. Five years ago a family friend gave my son a copy of Science and Health, which he shared with me. Since then I have searched no further, for this wonderful book opened the door to a new understanding of God and my relationship to Him. I am continually learning to know and love and trust Him in my daily life.

Since my mother was a medical nurse, and I was always into all the current nutritional fads, I had found it easier to practice the truths of Christian Science in my human relationships than in healing sickness; I have had to work hard to understand God's allness and power to heal physically, and to know that as the child of God I can trust Him and totally rely on His loving care.

One day early in 1993 I came home from work with aches and chills. I knew that people had been out for several days at a time with the flu. I sat at the dinner table but could barely eat. I lay on the couch but could not keep my eyes open to read Science and Health. Finally I went to bed. As I went to sleep I thought about our loving Father-Mother God and just knew in the very depth of my being that I was in His hands and that He would take care of me through the night. I also decided I would study and pray with Science and Health in the morning—which I did.
