Admission of new members of The Mother Church
On November 4, 1994, The Christian Science Board of Directors joyously elected new members to The Mother Church from thirty-nine countries. They had applied in nine different languages. According to the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, candidates are elected into membership twice a year, "... on the Friday preceding the first Sunday in June, and on the first Friday in November of each year" (Art. XIII, Sect. 2).
The Manual outlines each step for the admission of new members, and any Mother Church member can play an active part by nurturing the desire to apply for membership and by approving an applicant. Article VI, Section 2, reads "Only members of The Mother Church are qualified to approve for membership individuals who are known to them to be Christians, and faithful, loyal students of the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
