During the first semester of my sophomore year in college...

During the first semester of my sophomore year in college, I took a beginning physics course. I could barely keep up with all the readings, the lab assignments, and the problems that we were required to solve. Because I devoted so much time to studying physics, I neglected my other classes.

After taking the first physics examination, I was shocked to find I'd failed it. I got a tutor, but despite all my efforts barely passed the second exam. The final grade for the course was to be made up of grades from the labs and three examinations, so I became quite concerned that I might fail the course. I was frustrated and afraid I just could never understand physics.

It became clear to me that I would only receive the solution to my problem through prayer. I prayed to understand better that God is my constant source of intelligence—the one infinite Mind. Christian Science teaches that Mind is a synonym for God. Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health: "There can be but one Mind, because there is but one God ..." (p. 469). I prayed to see that the professor, the students in the class, and I were all governed by this one divine Mind; the test-maker was governed by the same Mind as the test-takers. I began to realize that because God knew all, He would supply me with the ideas I needed, and that I was not dependent on a limited amount of human intelligence. This statement confirmed what I was perceiving: "God is intelligence. Can we inform the infinite Mind of anything He does not already comprehend?" (ibid., p. 2).
