How was your day?

Some time ago I decided that I would revise this article by the end of a particular day. After sitting down to type it out and add certain material, I realized that just finishing the article and sending it in was not enough. More important was how I went about writing it. So I strove for the goal of humbly listening for God's will rather than being concerned with personal deadlines. I knew that to do all to the glory of God would be living my oneness with Him. It would enable me to know better what to say and how to say it. Not surprisingly, the article was completed, though not according to the time frame I had set up. The thoughts I needed had become clear as I listened.

Sometimes we hear people say with an air of accomplishment, "I finished that term paper," or "I cleaned the whole house," or "I paid all my bills." But how these were done can be as important, or more so, than the fact they they were done. Did I pay my bills with the recognition that God is the true source of all supply, daily and abundantly? Was I feeling my oneness with divine Mind as I wrote the term paper? Was I joyful in going about my household chores, realizing God as the source of activity and vitality? Have the things I accomplished been a blessing to all parties, done in a spirit of unselfishness? Have my business transactions been guided by Mind and done in a loving, principled manner? Did I play tennis feeling enjoyment and strength, recognizing myself and the other players as Life's pure expression? Have I taken the time to understand God better during the day so that my decisions and activities are not a mere "spinning of wheels"? Have I been conscious of my identity and that of others as God's perfect, spiritual reflection?

Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy describes God's nature in these words from the Biblically derived definition of God in the Glossary: "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence" (p. 587). Since man is God's image and inseparable from Him, we include His qualities; we express His nature. This is the reality of our being. A greater understanding of this will bring out changes for the good in our experience.
