From childhood I suffered from a debilitating illness and great fear. Through the study and practice of what Christian Science teaches, I now enjoy consistent good health, and instead of fearing problems that come up in my life and the world around me, I have learned to heal myself and others, and to live peaceably with those around me. To return blessing for cursing, to forgive with love, and to learn the secret of unselfishness, are the fruits of obeying God as taught in the Bible and Science and Health. What follows is but one evidence of what these teachings have given to me and mine.
Earlier this year our three-year-old son fell headfirst out of a treehouse while we were visiting with friends. The group of guests jumped up in alarm to help him. My husband reached him first, picked him up, and said, "God loves you." Our son's head was cut very badly. Others stood around, anxiously expecting us to call a doctor—they felt the child could need stitches and might have received a concussion.
I took him in my arms and comforted him, immediately feeling very confident of God's present love. I knew the child's true being was spiritual, created by God, unhurt and invulnerable to accident. Those around us, though not students of Christian Science, were active Christians. I rejoiced silently at their opportunity to witness the Christ-power with us, and knew that God was declaring Himself to all, right there.
