My testimony is long overdue
My testimony is long overdue. It was almost seventy years ago that I had my first healing through the prayerful treatment of a Christian Science practitioner. Late at night, as my family was returning home on the streetcar from a Fourth of July fireworks display, one passenger inadvertently bumped me out, into the path of a passing car. I must have raised my head as it passed over me, because my scalp was badly lacerated. Someone took us to a nearby hospital, where stitches were taken and a large piece of adhesive material was applied to the small of my back. Then I was taken home. (My mother related all this to me the next day when I became conscious again.) She asked a neighbor, a friend who was a Christian Science nurse, to care for me. She also contacted a practitioner, who came to our home and talked to me and my family about the ever-present love and goodness of our all-powerful God. With the help of her prayer for me, a complete healing resulted.
A short time after this healing I started attending a Christian Science Sunday School with the nurse's daughter, who was about my age. Seeing how much Christian Science benefited us physically, academically, and through improved attitudes, my parents started attending services at the branch church, and I continued attending Sunday School there. "One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts" (Psalms 145:4).
Years later there was further confirmation attesting to my healing of the back injuries. Just before World War II, I was called up for the military draft and examined four times by different doctors. A surgeon told me it was a miracle I had ever walked after that accident; yet I had never been confined to bed, even for one day, after the practitioner visited us and prayed for me.
