We were used to praying

Parents often exchange stories about their children and their growing up years. But some of these accounts go beyond fond memories to describing a kind of firm foundation in spiritual experience. Here two mothers recall the record of Christian healing and care from their and their children's lives.

Anna: One thing I used to think about when our children started school was how in the world I'd able to follow through on that Bible admonition "All thy children shall be taught of the Lord." I took it as a literal promise of God's care but also recognized my responsibility to give them spiritual values. And they were already being taught amiss by neighborhood friends, and relatives, and of course television.

Jesse: It worried me too. I hoped the wrong information and values would be counteracted at home by our study together of the Bible Lessons from the Christian Science Quarterly, and by Sunday School. We were used to praying together, and I think the children naturally understood that there was much more to our lives than the values of a material culture.
