I am deeply grateful for the many healings I have had through the practice of Christian Science. They have resulted in much growth in spiritual understanding.
A number of years ago, one evening after eating seafood, I became seriously ill. With the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner and the steady support of my wife, the aggressive condition yielded to prayer. Several years later however, I again ate seafood and soon after began to have symptoms of a reaction. I prayed to God with all my heart.
As I prayed I remembered Moses' words to the children of Israel when he led them out of bondage in Egypt: "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day" (Exodus). I realized that God is eternal, and He is with us as much now as He was some thirty-four hundred years ago when His protecting power parted the Red Sea and saved the Israelites from the Egyptians.
Release from the discomfort came, along with a conviction that I would not accept a sentence of being allergic to anything, but would courageously meet this challenge through trust in God. I knew that it is man's divine right to be healthy and free.
As the years progressed, I would sometimes eat seafood. When I did, there usually was a reaction, but the challenges were met with greater dominion each time.
One night I suddenly felt the symptoms of a severe reaction after eating an ocean fish. As I prayed to God for help, I remembered some passages I had read that morning while studying the Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly).
The passages were from the first chapter of Genesis, and they inspired me to recognize more clearly that all that truly exists is of God and is entirely harmonious. One of them states: "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy tells us: "All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power."
The physical reaction to seafood was completely overcome. Since I had this beautiful healing, years have passed during which I have freely eaten all kinds of seafood with no discomfort or trouble.
I am humbly grateful to God for Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science, which has brought many healings and great enrichment to my life.
