Some time ago a strange swelling formed right next to one of my fingernails, but I didn't pay any attention to it in the bustle of the Christmas holidays. Pain and an increase in the swelling soon reminded me of the trouble. The thought came that there is no change with God. This thought was very comforting to me, and I turned once more to other tasks. By the following morning the hand had swollen considerably however, and the pain began to spread.

I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to support me through prayer. The healing progressed as I was able to turn away from the picture of material imperfection to that of the perfection of God, Spirit. I thought about Christ Jesus' words: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matthew). I have so often found that there's always a thought in the Bible and passages in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, that are helpful in a time of concern.

The healing of the thumbnail was coming along well when a strange process of disintegration began to appear on almost all the other fingernails. Again I asked the practitioner for help. The Christian Science textbook says, "The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent." This was very plain to me.
