Last summer I visited my sister
Last summer I visited my sister. On Saturday morning we went shopping, and when we crossed the main street my foot got caught in the trolley track. My foot was wedged so tightly that in order to release it I needed to sit down and use both hands.
Though my foot was injured, I continued on with my sister. As I went along I thought of a verse from one of my favorite hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal. It goes like this:
I walk with Love along the way,
And O, it is a holy day;
No more I suffer cruel fear,
I feel God's presence with me here;
The joy that none can take away
Is mine; I walk with Love today.
Thinking about the spiritual promise that this hymn was describing helped relieve the pain. We found a place to have lunch, and as a previously planned surprise my sister had purchased two tickets for an afternoon boat ride. The trip was delightful, but I had to lean heavily on my sister's arm to reach her home.
Later that evening I could not walk on the foot. My sister was alarmed and telephoned long distance to my daughter to tell her what had happened. They wanted to take me to a hospital, but when I heard these plans I reasoned with my sister that I had always met my needs with reliance on God. I had been a student of Christian Science from childhood right on up. Science had protected and healed me for over sixty years, and I would turn to it now.
I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. Our talk was very helpful. I recognized her statements as Christianly scientific truths. She spoke of man as God's spiritual expression, not made up of material elements but a creation of God, including all right ideas. I had studied these truths before, and they helped me now. These spiritual facts were central to eliminating the pain. She reinforced my concept of myself as in truth the perfect image and likeness of God.
I thanked her for her help and retired for the night, remembering healings I had experienced and witnessed on previous occasions. I thanked God for His omnipotent power and His ever-presence.
The next morning I was able to walk normally, free of any pain or weakness! My foot was healed. How delighted my sister was to see this healing. We both thanked God for His loving care.
I called the practitioner to thank her again for her assistance and prayerful thoughts. I continue to be grateful for this experience and for this proof that God is ever present. His loving care is everywhere.
