Back and Forth

a dialogue with readers

The letters we receive keep broadening our sense of "family."

One subscriber wrote to us recently that though she believed five generations of her family had relied upon Christian Science for healing, she had no record of any of the myriad healings her family had experienced. She asked if we would check our files to see if there were any published testimonies by family members. Though we couldn't do this on a regular basis, we did a little research and came up with three testimonies. In writing to thank us, the woman added:

"Your research confirms my suspicions that five generations of my immediate family lived their lives relying on God for healing, and yet we had no written record in our possession of a single healing, and only a very small number had been published. And so, The Mother Church has knowledge of only the smallest percentage of the wonderful healing activity that has occurred over the past century-plus. In conversing with fellow church members, I have found there are many other third-, fourth-, and fifth-generation Christian Scientists in a similar situation. Prompted by the recent court cases in which God's ability and willingness to heal are being fundamentally questioned, I have begun a journal of our family's healings. I mentioned this in a testimony recently, and three other people got up and testified similarly."
