Early in my study of Christian Science I was transferred to a new job. Prior to my beginning the work, I was warned by a number of people that my new boss had a nasty disposition. I was of two minds. On the one hand I was prepared to judge my boss on his own merit. On the other hand (from a somewhat defensive posture), I was ready to let him have it if he dared to criticize me unfairly.
Approaching the situation from this perspective did not help much, since I frequently fell prey to my boss's stinging barbs and criticisms. Things came to a head one day when he was rude to me in front of a number of people.
I had been praying daily about this problem. But I think I was really talking myself out of a satisfactory resolution by arguing from two standpoints and giving credence to both. I realized that I had to pray more affirmatively and to make practical the spiritual truths revealed to me.
