FROM THE Directors

"With one Father..."

"With one Father, even God, the whole family of man would be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good, the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth, and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which constitute divine Science (Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 469–470).

Members seated in the Extension of The Mother Church, waiting for the opening of the Annual Meeting in 1969, remember being brought face to face with the issues of civil rights and racism. A committee of black clergymen from the Boston area entered the auditorium, came to the platform, and delivered a compelling statement on these issues. This was not an isolated event. Similar messages were proclaimed to other churches and institutions throughout the United States at that time and have continued to reverberate around the world.

That was over twenty years ago, and here and in many lands gains have been made. There is a growing sense of what it means to have one Father. But fear and hate still raise an unwanted challenge. Every member of this Church lives in an area where nationalism, tribalism, or racism in some form needs to be faced and healed. Could there be a better way to overcome these evils than for all men and women everywhere to live under the spiritual rules found in Christ Jesus' Sermon on the Mount?
