A context for healing: family
I Grew up in a family that was familiar with God. By that I don't mean we did a lot of talking about Him. But God was a given—a presence for good. We felt He was there, always, a consistent, spiritual fact of our lives.
Once my dad was very ill, and my brother and I had to go stay with our grandmother. Dad was studying Christian Science, and he chose to be cared for through prayer and treatment from a Christian Science practitioner. Grandmother said it was serious —pneumonia—but Dad was healed, and in a week my brother and I returned home.
For me that incident showed that God's love was reliable. I began to see that God's power to heal was available for anyone who loved and obeyed Him.
