Womanhood: blessed, not cursed

True womanhood is subject to God's law of good, not to cycles of suffering.

For generations women have suffered from the assumption that being female carries with it certain liabilities—such as periodic pain. For some it's a physiological belief: that normal body functions are likely to cause discomfort. For others it's a theological belief: that original sin, stemming from Adam and Eve, brought a curse to mankind forever after. Either way women are left feeling burdened.

But is such suffering in accord with God's law? It is not. God's law is the law of divine Love, which brings good, not evil, to His creation. An understanding of God's law has actually brought freedom from pain to many women.

Essential to this freedom is the understanding that man—our genuine, spiritual identity—is created by God. Spiritual man is not a male or female mortal, but rather the idea of God, divine Spirit, expressing both masculine and feminine qualities. Through consecrated prayer we come to see that what is true of spiritual man is true of us. And we begin to accept what the Bible declares: "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen. 1:27.
