God cares
During the early 1900s, there was a little girl named Opal Whiteley. Opal had lost both of her parents and was sent to live with a foster family in the rough-and-ready lumber camps of Oregon. At the age of five she began her "printing," by hand, on scraps of paper that finally became a remarkable child's diary.
In the pages of Opal's writings are captured many of the deepest yearnings and hopes common to people everywhere. The vivid language of her searching child-heart speaks volumes. As the book jacket to a recent edition of the diary observes, "Opal's theme is simple: God is caring. Life is wondrous."
Here's an example. Opal is telling of an encounter with the family's horse:
