For many years I have enjoyed inspiration and encouragement gained from the articles and testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals. This testimony is an overdue expression of thanksgiving for the numerous blessings this Science has brought to my life.

The experience I wish to share began on Christmas morning many years ago. My mother, father, and aunt were visiting us for two weeks over the holidays. It was a particularly joyous occasion, for previous to this time my husband's career had made it impossible for us to be together for such events.

After breakfast I went into the kitchen to make the pies for Christmas dinner. When I leaned over the flour bin, something gave way in my back. I was bent over and could not move up or down. The pain was overwhelming. I screamed, and everyone came running to help me. My husband carried me to the nearest bed. Then he and I both reached out in prayer. At first, mine was short, simple, and urgent: "Father, help me."
