I am grateful for Christian Science and for the weekly Bible Lessons outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. Several years ago I was helping a friend put an addition on his house. We tried to get an early start every day, but I always took the time each morning to study the Bible Lesson before leaving for my friend's house.

One day we were up on a scaffold, removing wood siding from a wall. I was using a large portable power saw when the blade guard stuck. As I brought the saw down off the wall, the saw drew across my arm, making a deep and long cut. A neighbor, who had come over to help, saw the injury to my arm. He had had quite a bit of first-aid training, and he made several suggestions as to what we should do.

When we were back on the ground, the neighbor continued to make suggestions and urged that I be rushed to the emergency ward of the nearest hospital. I certainly appreciated his kind concern, but I told him that I was a Christian Scientist and that I wanted to handle the problem in this way. I rinsed off the arm and asked if I might be left alone for a few moments.
