"New you" special—$165
Who hasn't felt the need for a "new you" —a better sense of self? Where we look for it makes all the difference.
I was on my way to the post office when the light turned red, giving me time to look around at some of the new shops opening in the area. A large banner flapping in the wind caught my eye. It read: NEW YOU SPECIAL—$165.
The idea of being able to write out a check or plunk down a credit card and walk out with $165 worth of "new you" brought a smile. How intriguing! Who isn't interested in looking and feeling good?
But I knew the salon could, at best, only promise cosmetic changes. It couldn't begin to include what's needed for the kind of renewal that brings a lasting sense of well-being. Any physical changes via the sweat-and-groan or cosmetic route don't come with guarantees of permanence. And that's only a sample of the unreliability of material methods— the list goes on and on. So where do we turn for a fresh start, a new and satisfactory sense of our being?
